Bold Bar Stools

Another little kitchen update for you today.  (Did I forget to tell you that January is “do little things to make your kitchen a happier place to be” month on the blog?  Well, it is now.)

lunch

Two of our dining chairs have recently been taken over by two very little people to accommodate baby seats, which leaves us with four chairs and five more people who need a seat around the table.  (And, when we had company last week, we had to rotate in and out of the available chairs…)

Eventually, when all seven of us can sit in big seats, I want a long bench for one side of the table.

But, for now, I decided that adding a couple of bar stools at the counter would be a good fix.  Of course, they had to be easy to wipe down, and I was hoping for something fun.  My parents had these old ice cream stools in storage and brought them to me last summer.  I had planned to use them in our kitchen until I realized they were going to scratch our wood floor to pieces, and there was no where to put the felt pads on the feet. (So, we moved them outside and used them as side tables on our patio.)

Then, last week, I found these bright “tangerine” stools on Overstock.  (Wasn’t one of my home goals for this year to use a new color?  Done.)

I was a little hesitant to order these in a color instead of just the metal ones.  But, I think they’re a fun addition to our otherwise traditional kitchen.  And, when I’ve had enough tangerine, I can probably figure out how to use a can of spray paint :)

(Ack! Just as I was finishing this post, I saw that the tangerine bar stools have sold out, in the case you felt like you had to have the very same ones :)   But, you can sign up to be notified when they get more.  They are still available in the counter height and in both heights in other colors. . . )

  2. Love the tangerine!! Good call on that one! I need some new bar stools, and can't decide what direction to go with them, so I always enjoy seeing what other people choose. :-) Good choice! Do you mind me asking how much they were?

  8. Love the orange! Of course, I'm biased since I have an orange and gray study that I'm STILL working on. A friend of mine added barstools instead of getting a bigger table and more chairs, too. It's been several years and it's still working well.

  14. i love them! we ordered them in red six months ago and love ours. and we are ordering 4 more (we have a large square old wood working station as an island) to stack in the corner for when guests are over. i have to say, tangerine is an awesome and new color that i might have to get for the four new stools - and then it lets me switch out when i want to. thanks for the update.

  15. Did you make your curtains or were they ordered as well? Do you have any suggestions on where to order custom looking curtains like these without the custom price?

  16. I love them! I'd love to see them in Kelly green too, And you could make some cushions that coordinate to the curtains- maybe a yellow and white stripe?

  17. Thank you for finding something awesome on O.co. Give me a Marshalls and I'll check every rack, but O.co always feels daunting! I'm picking up a pair for my kitchen redesign. Great eye!

  24. Love those little twins! They're looking so happy and healthy :-)
Love the tangerine stools. They look great in your kitchen.
About the little ice cream stools---Yes there are ways to put felt feet on this type of foot. You just have to get a little creative and agree that you'll probably see a little part of the felt on top. I've done this several times. However, using the ice cream stools for outside end tables is a great look! I'd be hard pressed to give them up for inside use...and besides those new stools probably would have won out anyway ;-)

  27. Your beautiful babies make me smile whenever you post them. Soooo adorable!!! Also they grown so quickly I can't believe it.

I love the pops of colors in your kitchen including the drapes and the stools. How high is your breakfast bar that the tangerine stools are placed at? I'm unsure how tall a stool should be for a breakfast bar and yours looks perfect.

  28. I love your mix of bold colors, prints and textures. The bright metal chairs, the burlap in the frames, the chevron runner and the awesome yellow damask curtains, and the crisp white- love, love, love!
